BJP urges people to hoist Tricolour on Telangana Liberation Day

Hyderabad, Sept 12 (TNT): Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Saturday urged people and party cadres to hoist the National Flag in their respective polling booth limits on September 17, observing Telangana Liberation Day.

Speaking at a commemorative seminar titled “Telangana Liberation – The Role of Nationalists”, organised by the BJP Telangana Liberation Committee at Abids Methodist Engineering College here, Rao said the BJP would ensure an official state-level celebration of Telangana Liberation Day if it came to power in the state.

Rao congratulated the Telangana Liberation Day Committee for organising the programme to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for the liberation of Telangana.

Recalling the events leading to the end of the Nizam rule, Rao said the Nizam regime was forced to surrender before the strength and strategic acumen of the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Polo, led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

He said September 17, marking the end of Nizam rule, symbolised the self-respect of the people of Telangana.

Rao demanded that the state government officially celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day, stating that the occasion was associated with the sentiments of the people and the sacrifices of martyrs.

He said the BJP would continue its campaign for official recognition of the day and asserted that, once the party came to power, the day would be celebrated officially and on a grand scale under the state government’s auspices.

Rao also called upon people and party cadres to hoist the Tricolour in their respective polling booth areas on September 17 and later participate in large numbers in the Telangana Liberation Day programme at Secunderabad Parade Grounds.

Former Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Parliamentary Board member Dr K. Laxman, BJP State General Secretary Vemula Ashok, State Vice-President and Telangana Liberation Committee Chairman Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud, Committee Convenor Nelli Srivardhan Reddy, senior leaders Bangaru Sruthi and Prakash Reddy, among others, participated in the seminar.
