3-member Expert team Inspect Kakinada Traffic Junctions for Beautification, Modernisation
Kakinada, Sept 10 (TNT): A three-member expert team from the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, on Thursday inspected 15 important road junctions and traffic islands in Kakinada city as part of efforts to modernise and beautify the city.
The team, comprising Prof Adinarayana, Dr Valyavan and Dr Naina Guptha, visited the junctions along with Kakinada Municipal Corporation Commissioner NVV Satyanarayana, Superintending Engineer P Venkata Rao and Assistant Engineer Macharaju.
The experts assessed traffic flow, vehicular movement, available space and pedestrian requirements at the junctions.
Commissioner Satyanarayana said the expert team would prepare designs for modernising the 15 important junctions and a separate plan for the overall beautification of the city.
He said the beautification plan would not follow a uniform design, with each junction proposed to have a distinct design reflecting the local history, culture and specialities of the area.
The designs and plans submitted by the experts would be implemented after approval by the District Collector, elected people’s representatives and the Municipal Commissioner, Satyanarayana said.
Prof Adinarayana said the designs would take into account the traffic situation at each junction and the factors contributing to heavy traffic.
Dr Naina Guptha said special designs were required for important junctions such as Bhanugudi Centre. Particular attention would be paid to ensuring the safe movement of cyclists, women, elderly persons, children and persons with disabilities, she added.
