Feudal ideology has no place in Telangana: Dy CMBhatti Vikramarka
Hyderabad, Sept 9 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday condemned the alleged conduct of BRS leaders in the Legislative Assembly and their subsequent actions, saying ” feudal and discriminatory ideology had no place in the state”.
Reacting to alleged remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and social media posts showing BRS leaders and workers purportedly carrying out a “purification” of roads walked on by Dalits, Bhatti said such actions insulted not only Dalits but the self-respect of the entire Telangana society.
He said similar incidents elsewhere in the country were also a matter of concern and recalled an alleged “purification” of a ground in Uttarakhand after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge attended a meeting there.
He criticised the BJP for not condemning the incident.
Bhatti said Telangana was formed through a movement centred on self-respect and equality and questioned how discriminatory practices could be tolerated in a state with such a history.
Alleging that the actions reflected a “farmhouse feudal mindset”, he questioned whether the country was moving back towards conditions reminiscent of the Middle Ages.
Referring to B R Ambedkar’s principles, Bhatti said liberty, equality and fraternity were inseparable and stressed the importance of social democracy alongside political democracy.
He also recalled the reform movements of Periyar, Narayana Guru, Basaveshwara and Jyotiba Phule against discrimination and inequality.
“What needs to be purified is not the land… what needs to be purified is their minds and their thoughts,” the Dy CM said.
Bhatti said democracy was strengthened not merely through elections but by increasing equality, reducing discrimination, protecting self-respect and ensuring justice for all.
He appealed to intellectuals, progressive leaders and democrats to condemn incidents of discrimination and work towards an egalitarian society.
Responding to BJP MLA Maheshwar Reddy’s remarks that public issues were not being discussed in the Assembly, Bhatti said the issue was not confined to the Assembly and concerned society as a whole.
