SCR detects 13,964 ticketless, irregular travellers; collects Rs 1.28-Cr

Hyderabad, Aug 28 (TNT): South Central Railway (SCR) detected 13,964 passengers travelling without tickets or irregularly and realised Rs 1.28 crore in ticket-checking revenue during a three-day intensive drive conducted across the zone from August 24 to 26.

The drive was conducted by the Commercial Department in view of the festival and holiday season to curb unauthorised travel and ensure comfortable journeys for genuine passengers, he SCR said in a release here on Friday.

During the drive, trains across the SCR jurisdiction were thoroughly checked.

Action was taken against ticketless and irregular travellers, passengers carrying unbooked luggage, unauthorised hawkers and those smoking or littering on railway premises.

Besides the 13,964 ticketless and irregular travellers, 1,189 passengers carrying unbooked luggage were detected, SCR said.

The drive also resulted in the detection of 37 passengers for littering, who were fined Rs 6,400. Five unauthorised hawkers were penalised Rs 10,000, while seven passengers caught smoking on railway premises were fined Rs 14,000.

Ticket-checking staff also counselled passengers on travelling with valid tickets and informed them about penalties for various offences.

Passengers were sensitised about the fire hazards associated with smoking and urged to maintain cleanliness at railway stations and trains.

SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava commended the Commercial Department for conducting the intensive drive and creating awareness among passengers about railway rules and penalties.

He said ticket checking played an important role in curbing ticketless and irregular travel, ensuring comfortable journeys for genuine passengers and maintaining cleanliness in railway premises and trains.
