EICI said the express logistics industry has evolved beyond the movement of time-critical documents and parcels, with networks now connecting manufacturers, exporters, MSMEs and consumers with domestic and international markets.

The council said the sector is increasingly important to India’s e-commerce, manufacturing, exports and cross-border trade ecosystem.

Established in 1998 and headquartered in Mumbai, EICI said its members collectively handle more than one billion shipments annually and account for over 80 per cent of India’s express logistics market. The sector contributes over Rs 700 billion to the economy and employs more than three million people, according to the council.
