Hyderabad, Feb 17 (TNT) : In a politically charged move aimed at cornering the ruling Congress ahead of the Budget session, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruthi, staged a flash protest at Praja Bhavan here on Tuesday, accusing the government of failing to honour its election commitments to women in Telangana.
Accompanied by over 1,000 women supporters, Kavitha submitted a memorandum to officials demanding immediate implementation of key promises, including 10 grams of gold for brides, electric scooters for students, and ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance for women.
Kavitha, daughter of BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), urged the government to make budgetary allocations in the upcoming session and warned that women across the state would intensify their agitation if the assurances are not implemented.
She also flagged pending promises to anganwadi and ASHA workers, alleging that the Congress had “betrayed” frontline women workers after coming to power.
Political observers view the protest as the beginning of a broader opposition campaign by the BRS to keep the Congress government on the defensive over its poll guarantees.
