Hyd: Gachibowli Police cracks 60-Laptop theft at UoH; three held including two B.tech students

Hyderabad, Feb 16 (TNT): In a swift breakthrough, the Gachibowli Police have solved the theft of 60 laptops from the CR Rao AIMS premises at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and arrested three persons, including two engineering students, a police release said here on Monday.

The entire stolen property has been recovered.

Acting on the complaints after registering a case under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on February 9, 2026,  police teams launched an intensive investigation, analysing CCTV footage and technical evidence to trace the suspects within days, said Gachibowli Police Inspector K. Balaraju, in a release here.

Police apprehended the trio on February 15, 2026, at Nextzen Parkview Men’s Hostel in TNGOs Colony, Gowlidoddi.

The arrested accused are: Regula Chandra Shekar (30), a resident of Kukatpally, originally from Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, Cherukuri Sai Charan (19), a B.Tech second-year CSE student at HCU, native of Khammam district and Uduthalapelly Ashwin Rao (19), a B.Tech second-year CSE student at HCU, native of Warangal district.

According to investigators, the accused exploited their familiarity with the campus layout and security arrangements to commit the offence during late-night hours. They unlawfully entered the premises and removed 60 laptops with the intention of disposing of them for wrongful gain.

Special teams formed immediately after registration of the FIR worked round the clock to track the movement of the suspects.

Based on technical clues and surveillance inputs, police secured the accused and recovered: All 60 stolen laptops (entire property), Three mobile phones and Two cars allegedly used in the commission of the offence.

The recovered items have been secured and will be handed over to the concerned authorities after completion of due legal formalities.

The accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

The case is being investigated by Detective Inspector P. Naresh under the guidance of  K. Balaraju, and under the supervision of ACP Narsingi G. Venkata Ramana Goud, Additional DCP Serilingampally Zone N. Uday Reddy, and DCP Serilingampally Zone Ch. Srinivas, IPS.

Police officials commended the coordinated and timely efforts of the investigation team in cracking the case within a short span and ensuring full recovery of the stolen property.
