Gourmet Popcornica unveils ‘The Husk’ as new global brand icon at Big Cine Expo in Chennai
Chennai, Aug 18 (TNT): Gourmet Popcornica, Asia’s largest and the world’s fifth-largest grower and processor of popcorn maize, on Tuesday unveiled its new global brand icon, ‘The Husk’, at Big Cine Expo 2026 here.
The new brand icon was unveiled jointly by Gourmet Popcornica Managing Director SBP Pattabhi Rama Rao and Thomas Peace, Director of Sales, Preferred Popcorn, USA, at the company’s stall at the Chennai Trade Centre, the company said in a release here.
The two-day event unveiling was held at Big Cine Expo 2026, described by the company as Asia’s leading trade show and convention for the cinema exhibition and theatrical distribution industry.
Designed as a hand-drawn mark resembling a corn husk in the process of unfurling, ‘The Husk’ represents protection, care and the journey of popcorn from cultivation to the consumer.
The company said the symbol would feature across its bags, facilities and communications going forward.
“The Husk represents everything we have built over the last decade.
It stands for the protection we extend to our more than 17,500 farmer partners across eight states in India, for the world-class quality we have proven can be grown on Indian soil, and for the innovation that connects the two,” Rama Rao said.
He said unveiling the brand icon at Big Cine Expo, an event associated with the cinema industry that has popularised popcorn among generations of Indians, was an appropriate beginning to the company’s new chapter.
Peace said Preferred Popcorn had witnessed Gourmet Popcornica’s growth from a single-state operation into a global-scale supplier during their partnership.
He described ‘The Husk’ as an identity reflecting quality, care for farmers and ambition, adding that Preferred Popcorn was proud to stand alongside the Indian company.
Founded in Andhra Pradesh in 2016, Gourmet Popcornica works with more than 17,500 farmers cultivating 39,500 acres of popcorn maize across eight states.
The company said its farming model, under which farmers contribute land and labour while it provides inputs, technology and guaranteed offtake, has increased farmer incomes by about 40 per cent.
The company operates a popcorn processing facility in Musunuru, Andhra Pradesh, with four processing lines capable of handling 29 tonnes per hour.
It also has a 45,000-tonne popcorn-specific cold storage network and a ready-to-cook popcorn premix plant.
