Avinash Mohanty takes charge as Commissioner of TG-SAFE
Hyderabad, Aug 17 (TNT): Senior IPS officer Avinash Mohanty on Monday took charge as the Commissioner of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG-SAFE).
Mohanty, an IPS officer of the 2005 batch, has been posted as Commissioner, TG-SAFE, in addition to his normal duties.
He is currently serving as Director General, Drugs Control Administration, Telangana.
The Telangana government established TG-SAFE by merging the Food Safety Department and the Drugs Control Administration into a unified administration to ensure coordinated regulation of food and essential drugs.
As Commissioner of TG-SAFE, Mohanty will exercise unified administrative control over the Food Safety Department and the Drugs Control Administration, without prejudice to the statutory powers, functions and responsibilities vested under the respective Acts and Rules.
The government had also notified Mohanty as Commissioner of Food Safety for Telangana, empowering him to exercise powers and perform functions under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder.
The appointment is aimed at bringing food and drug safety administration under a unified framework in the state.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the state government’s priority was to ensure the safety, security and well-being of citizens in every aspect of life.
In a post on ‘X’, the Chief Minister said the People’s Government was committed to establishing and reinforcing the rule of law and making accountability its core principle.
He said the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG-Safe) had come into force with the objective of bringing food and medicine safety and standards under a single department.
Revanth Reddy expressed hope that citizens would welcome the new initiative and make use of its services to contribute to a safer Telangana.
