Indigenous counter-drone system gets Rs 155 crore government orders

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (TNT): India’s indigenous counter-drone capabilities received a major boost with Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems and Sigma Advanced Systems securing government orders worth around Rs 155 crore for deployment of their mobile anti-drone system, Indrajaal Ranger™.

Of the total orders, a Rs 145 crore order placed with the Indrajaal-Sigma consortium will support border security, while another order worth around Rs 10 crore will see deployment of the system for VVIP protection and urban security, the Hyderabad based company said in a release here on Monday.

The Indrajaal Ranger™ has been developed as a mobile platform capable of detecting, tracking, identifying and countering rogue drones while on the move. The system is designed to provide security agencies with mobile protection against low-altitude aerial threats.

The vehicle integrates sensors, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, command and control and layered countermeasures through the company’s SkyOS™ platform. Its capabilities include taking control of rogue drones, creating virtual protective airspace and physically intercepting hostile drones.

The company said the system had undergone government evaluations and was selected by the Ministry of Home affairs.

Indrajaal Founder and CEO Kiran Raju Penumacha said the threat posed by drones was no longer confined to battlefields and had extended to borders, airports, cities, public events, critical infrastructure and VVIP movements.

Sigma Advanced Systems CEO Sunil Kalidindi said the programme demonstrated the capability of India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem to deliver advanced security technologies at operational scale.
