New mines to give renewed strength to Singareni : CMD Buddhaprakash Jyoti
Kothagudem (Telangana), Aug 15 (TNT): Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) CMD Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti on Saturday said the company was set for renewed growth with the acquisition of new coal blocks and diversification initiatives, while according priority to meeting Telangana’s growing energy requirements.
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at Prakasham Stadium here after hoisting the National Flag, he said Singareni had secured the Tadicherla-2 Mining Lease and the PK OC-2 Dip-side Block with the support of the State Government.
The Tadicherla-2 block has the potential to produce around 340 million tonnes of coal and support mining operations for nearly 40 years, while the PK OC-2 Dip-side Block has around 120 million tonnes of coal reserves and would strengthen the Manuguru area as well as the Kothagudem region, he said.
Dr Jyoti thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for their continued support and regular review of Singareni’s development and expansion.
As part of its business expansion plans, Singareni was entering the critical minerals sector, he said, adding that the company had secured a licence to explore gold and copper minerals in the Deva Durga area of Karnataka and would commence exploration shortly.
Preparations were also underway to explore Rare Earth Elements present in Singareni’s open-cast mines. The recently established Singareni Geo-Science Laboratory at Kothagudem would support exploration activities in the critical minerals sector, he said.
Stating that the interests of Telangana remained a priority for Singareni, the CMD said the company was supplying additional coal to thermal power stations in the State in view of the increasing demand for electricity. Coal produced from the Naini Coal Block in Odisha had also been transported to the Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP), which he described as a major milestone in the company’s history.
He called upon employees to work with dedication and focus on safety, production, productivity and cost control to keep Singareni competitive in the market. Advanced technologies and modern mining methods would be adopted to increase production and reduce the cost of coal, he said.
Singareni could remain strong only through optimum utilisation of heavy machinery and human resources, he said, stressing the need to explore diversification opportunities and adopt modern mining practices.
Dr Jyoti said the company was committed to employee welfare and had taken steps to improve medical services. A Cath Lab had been established at the Ramagundam Area Hospital to provide emergency cardiac care services, he said.
He called upon employees to work collectively to transform Singareni into a stronger national-level mining company.
