Kolkata: CBI Arrests Proclaimed Offender in Bhadu Sheikh Murder Case

Kolkata, Aug 14 (TNT): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested proclaimed offender Masad Sheikh in connection with the murder of Bhadu Sheikh in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.

Masad Sheikh was arrested from Wari Bander, Dongri, Mumbai, on Friday based on human intelligence and technical inputs, the Agency said in a release here.

The accused had been absconding since the registration of the FIR in 2022 and had not joined the investigation or trial, according to the agency.

The CBI registered the case on April 8, 2022, following an order of the Calcutta High Court, taking over Rampurhat Police Station FIR No. 168/2022 related to the murder of Bhadu Sheikh at Bogtui in Birbhum district on March 21, 2022.

Following investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet and supplementary chargesheets in 2022 and 2023 against nine accused persons, including Masad Sheikh.

The trial was initially before the ACJM, Rampurhat, and was subsequently transferred to the Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, 4th Court, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal.

The arrested accused will be brought to Kolkata from Mumbai for production before the competent court, the CBI added.
