RailOne clocks 10 lakh daily ticket transactions as online railway services gain traction
New Delhi, Aug 12 (TNT): The RailOne mobile application of Indian Railways is recording an average of 10 lakh ticket transactions a day, with the integrated platform crossing 4.76 crore downloads as of August 2, 2026, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.![]()
Launched on July 1, 2025, RailOne enables passengers to book reserved and unreserved tickets through mobile phones and brings various public-facing railway services under a single platform.
The app integrates reserved, unreserved and platform ticketing, train enquiry, PNR enquiry, RailMadad and other passenger services. It also provides a single sign-on facility, allowing users to access multiple railway services without downloading separate applications or maintaining multiple passwords.
Of the average 10 lakh daily ticket transactions through RailOne, around 2.79 lakh are reserved tickets and 7.24 lakh are unreserved tickets, according to the data provided by the Railway Ministry.
The growing use of digital ticketing comes against the backdrop of a broader shift towards online railway services. Around 89 per cent of reserved tickets are currently booked online, compared to about 49 per cent in 2013-14. Unreserved tickets booked through non-counter modes have also risen to nearly 39 per cent.
The ministry also highlighted the role of the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) in reducing dependence on railway enquiry counters.
Introduced in 2000, NTES provides near real-time information on train running status, arrivals and departures and schedules through its website, mobile applications, enquiry counters and the nationwide Rail Enquiry Number 139.
Its services include “Spot Your Train”, “Live Station”, “Train Schedule” and “Trains between Stations”.
The NTES Android application has recorded more than 4.5 crore downloads, while its iOS application has crossed 16 lakh downloads as of August 1, 2026.
At present, NTES handles around 80,000 concurrent users and processes more than six crore enquiries every day, the minister said.
The availability of train information through digital platforms has significantly reduced the need for passengers to visit enquiry counters, thereby helping cut queues and waiting time, according to the ministry.
The ministry also said that in cases of train cancellation, the online Next Generation E-ticketing (NGeT) system automatically initiates the refund process after the scheduled departure time of the cancelled train. The applicable refund is subsequently credited to the passenger’s bank account.
The automatic refund facility in case of train cancellation is currently available only for online e-tickets. Passengers holding counter tickets are required to approach the nearest Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter for refunds, the Union Minister in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
