Kakinada: Seized modified silencers destroyed with road roller
Kakinada , Aug 11 (TNT): In a drastic action , the district police have destroyed as many as 540 modified silencers seized from the motorcyclists during 2025 and till now in 2026 crushing them with a road roller .
District SP Bindu Madhav while flagging off the roller crushing operation at the Traffic two town police station grounds on Tuesday ,said that usage of modified silencers was an offence as it creates sound pollution creating a sound more than permissible 60 decibels .
The sound causes hearing problems among the public besides disturbs the peaceful living of people, especially the senior citizens.
He said during 2025 as many as 169 cases were booked against usage of modified silencers and collected a fine of Rs.2,20,500 from the two wheeler drivers besides seizing the silencers. Similarly during the current year till now as many as 841 cases were booked and Rs.12,61,605 was collected as a fine besides seizing the modified silencers.
The Traffic circle inspector of two town traffic police station D Ramarao has booked the cases.
The one town traffic inspector N Ramesh also done similar thing but destroying the modified silencers soon after seizure .
The SP Bindu Madhav and Additional SP Dr Mahanti Kishore Kumar have complimented both the traffic inspectors and their staff for their effective functioning in enforcing the traffic rules and regulations and also preventing number of road accidents by booking and prosecuting drunken drive cases .
SP Bindu Madhav has warned that if caught with modified silencers for the second time instead of modified silencers the motorcycle itself would be confiscated and a heavy penalty would be imposed.
Additional SP Armed reserve S Srinivasarao, DSP Special Branch KVV Satyanarayana , Traffic inspector -1 town N Ramesh, Traffic Inspector two town D Ramarao , Law and order two town police station SHO Majji Appalanaidu and SI B Rajesh kumar and other Sub inspectors MSN Raju, A Satyanarayana, P Satyanarayana were among those attended the event, according to district police office .
