Telangana: Cyber Security Bureau busts Delhi call centre Fraud network; 21 wowomen among 22 held
Hyderabad, Aug 10 (TNT): The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) on Monday said it had busted a cyber fraud network operating through three call centres in Delhi and apprehended 21 women telecallers from Telangana and a bank account holder.
The three call centres, operating from Shiva Market in Delhi, had allegedly been functioning for around one-and-a-half years, TGCSB Director Shikha Goel said in a release.
Three key organisers identified as Lalith Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Anil are absconding, the Bureau said.
The accused allegedly targeted people across Telangana by posing as representatives of Bajaj Finance and offering attractive loan approvals. The organisers recruited Telugu-speaking women as telecallers to gain the confidence of victims, police said.
The telecallers allegedly followed a scripted procedure and collected money from victims on the pretext of loan processing fees, verification charges, documentation fees, insurance premiums and other charges.
After receiving the money, the accused either stopped communicating with the victims or demanded further payments by making false promises of loan approval, the TGCSB said.
When victims questioned the transactions or sought refunds, the accused allegedly resorted to intimidation and blackmail, threatening them with legal action, damage to their reputation and misuse of personal information and identity documents.
During the operation, officials seized 23 mobile phones and two bank passbooks. Links to 22 cybercrime cases registered across Telangana have so far been established, while further investigation is underway.
The investigation revealed that the recruited telecallers were from Telangana, including Korutla in Jagtial district, Saidabad and Borabanda in Hyderabad and Mahabubnagar district.
The TGCSB advised people to independently verify callers and lending companies before making any loan-related payments and cautioned them against trusting callers merely because they speak Telugu or another regional language.
People who fall victim to cyber fraud have been advised to immediately contact 1930 or report the incident through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, police said.
The operation was conducted by DySP G Srinivasu and his team comprising Inspectors Bhadramraju Ramesh and D Srinu, Sub-Inspectors Mahender, Karthik, Shirisha and Likhitha and other personnel, under the guidance of TGCSB Director Shikha Goel.
