Maharashtra: Training Aircraft Veers Off Runway at Baramati Airfield, No Injuries Reported

Baramati (Maharashtra), Aug 9 (TNT): A Cessna C172 training aircraft operated by DGCA-approved flying training organisation Academy of Carver Aviation met with a runway excursion at Baramati Airfield in Maharashtra on Sunday, with the instructor and trainee on board escaping unhurt, officials said.

The aircraft, bearing registration VT-SEX, was involved in a Circuit and Landing Emergencies (CL Emergencies) training exercise when the incident occurred at around 12.25 pm.

The aircraft was under the command of Flight Instructor Capt Chirag Shashikant Doifode, with trainee Abhijeet Jundre on board.

According to preliminary information, the aircraft had taxied out at around 12.09 pm for the scheduled training exercise.

During the exercise, it lined up at the threshold of Runway 29 and carried out a rejected take-off drill.

It subsequently lined up at Runway 11 for another rejected take-off exercise. During the course of the training, the aircraft was unable to stop within the paved runway surface and subsequently veered off the extended paved area beyond the threshold of Runway 29 towards the right, resulting in the runway excursion.

There were no injuries or fatalities reported in the incident.

The aircraft is understood to have sustained prima facie damage to its propeller, engine cowling and nose landing gear. A detailed assessment of the damage will be carried out by the competent authorities.

The DGCA Air Safety team is proceeding to the site to conduct a preliminary investigation into the incident and determine the circumstances and possible contributing factors.
