AP: Sri City Turns 18, Emerges as Major Industrial and Manufacturing Hub
Tirupati, Aug 8 (TNT) Sri City, the integrated business city in Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday marked its 18th Raising Day, highlighting its transformation from an industrial development project in a relatively underdeveloped region into a major manufacturing and investment destination.
Spread across 8,000 acres, Sri City currently hosts more than 260 companies from 31 countries, with investments exceeding Rs 53,000 crore, exports crossing Rs 57,500 crore and providing more than 75,000 direct jobs.
The industrial hub houses companies manufacturing automobiles, metro coaches, electronics, air-conditioners, engineering products, food products and consumer goods for domestic and international markets.
In a release, Sri City Managing Director Dr Ravindra Sannareddy said the development had evolved from a vision into a globally recognised manufacturing hub, supported by investor confidence, workforce participation and government support.
Emerges as cooling technology hub
Sri City has also emerged as India’s “Cooling Capital”, with 10 major original equipment manufacturers, including Daikin, Blue Star, Carrier, Havells Lloyd, Amber and Epack Durable, along with around 30 specialised component manufacturers.
Employment in the cooling technology cluster is expected to cross 40,000, while production from the cluster is projected to account for nearly 60 per cent of India’s air-conditioner production by 2027, the organisation said.
Industrial growth accompanied by education push
The development of Sri City has extended beyond manufacturing, with the emergence of an education and knowledge ecosystem.
Institutions including IIIT Sri City, Krea University and IFMR Graduate School of Business have expanded access to technical, liberal arts and management education in the region. The Sri City International University, launched on July 2, 2026, is expected to further strengthen industry-academia linkages, applied learning and research.
Over Rs 61 crore invested in CSR initiatives
Through the Sri City Foundation, supported by more than 40 industrial partners, CSR initiatives have mobilised over Rs 61 crore since 2009 for education, healthcare, infrastructure, skill development and environmental sustainability.
The initiatives have included upgrading government schools, healthcare and medical camps, drinking water and sanitation projects, vocational training, community libraries and restoration of green spaces and water bodies. More than 5,000 local youth have received skill training under these interventions.
As part of the 18th Raising Day celebrations, the Sri City Foundation, in association with NTR Trust, Tirupati, organised a blood donation camp on Saturday.
Employees from several companies, including Axxelent Pharma, TIL Healthcare, NGC, THK and Rockworth, participated in the initiative.
Expansion planned
The organisation said Andhra Pradesh has allocated an additional 2,000-plus acres for Sri City’s expansion, positioning the integrated business city for further manufacturing growth.
Sri City said its next phase would seek to combine industrial competitiveness with social inclusion and environmental responsibility, while strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position as an investment and manufacturing destination.
