Amazon Nutrition Programme Reaches 9k Children in 130 Telangana Government Schools
Hyderabad, Aug 8 (TNT): More than 9,000 children in 130 government schools in Telangana’s Rangareddy district will receive daily morning nutrition under a supplementary nutrition programme launched by Amazon, with the initiative having already served over 5 million meals since its inception.
The Amazon Supplementary Nutrition Program, funded by Amazon and implemented by the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust, was launched at ZPHS Hythabad in Shabad mandal on Saturday.
It covers students in government schools across Kandukur, Yacharam and Shabad mandals.
The programme provides fortified ragi with jaggery, multi-grain cookies and millet-peanut-sesame chikkis as morning nutrition six days a week.
More than 2.5 lakh meals are served every month, according to the programme details.
The initiative is aimed at addressing hunger-related absenteeism, while improving students’ concentration in classrooms and supporting their overall well-being.
The programme has also emerged as a public-private partnership model involving the state government.
The launch programme was attended by A Madhusudhan Reddy, Chairman, Zilla Grandhalaya (Libraries) Samstha, Rangareddy District, and Venkateshwarlu, District Education Officer.
The initiative builds on Amazon’s wider community engagement in Rangareddy district, where its AWS InCommunities programme has undertaken projects related to education, healthcare and community infrastructure.
Amazon has previously supported the renovation of ZPHS Hythabad, including improvements to classrooms, sanitation, drinking water and other school facilities.
Amazon’s community initiatives in Telangana have also included nutrition-focused interventions.
An earlier AWS InCommunities programme launched a breakfast initiative aimed at providing schoolchildren with nutritious morning food and improving their ability to concentrate on lessons.
The latest programme comes against the backdrop of the broader importance of nutrition in improving school attendance and learning outcomes.
The Rangareddy district administration’s education initiatives also recognise the role of school meal programmes in improving children’s health and reducing dropout rates.
Beyond its community initiatives, Amazon has a significant technology infrastructure footprint in India.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) operates cloud data centre Regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, according to the company.
Amazon plans to invest an additional USD 13 billion in expanding its AI and cloud infrastructure in India by 2030, taking its total planned investment in the country’s AI and cloud infrastructure to more than USD 21 billion between 2026 and 2030, the release said.
The nutrition programme, organisers said, is intended to strengthen the link between nutrition, school attendance and learning, while extending supplementary morning nutrition to children in government schools across the three mandals.
