Telangana Invites Industry to Make State a Plastics, Polymer Manufacturing Hub
Hyderabad, Aug. 7 (TNT): Telangana Information Technology and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Friday called upon industry stakeholders to partner with the State Government in making Telangana a leading hub for plastics and polymer manufacturing, describing the sector as a key driver of India’s economic growth.
Inaugurating HIPLEX 2026, South and Central India’s largest plastics exhibition and the country’s third-largest plastics expo, at the HITEX Exhibition Centre here, the Minister said the plastics and polymers industry was a vital engine of economic growth, generating employment and supporting manufacturing across sectors.
The four-day exhibition, organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA), features over 550 exhibitors and is expected to attract more than 55,000 business visitors from India and abroad.
Addressing industry leaders, entrepreneurs and exhibitors, Sridhar Babu said almost every manufacturing sector depends on plastics and polymers and noted that nearly two lakh families in Telangana depend on the industry for their livelihood.
He assured the industry of continued government support and said Telangana would provide necessary policy interventions to promote the sector.
The Minister said Telangana has already emerged as a leader in IT, electronics, pharmaceuticals, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), defence and aerospace, and expressed confidence that the State could replicate the same success in the plastics and polymers sector through innovation, sustainability and green manufacturing practices.
He also released the HIPLEX 2026 Show Directory.
Plastindia Foundation President Dr. Raju Desai said India’s plastics industry has grown into a ₹4.5 lakh crore sector, expanding at 6-9 per cent annually, with exports expected to cross ₹1.4 lakh crore this year.
He said the industry employs nearly 55 lakh people and that India recycles about 60 per cent of the plastics it consumes, placing it among global leaders in plastic recycling.
All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) Governing Council Chairman Arvind Mehta said the industry should focus on exports, technology adoption, skill development and sustainability to strengthen India’s position as a global manufacturing base.
AIPMA Senior Vice-President Anil Reddy Vennam urged the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to establish a dedicated Plastics Park and allocate 250 acres for a recycling cluster with a Common Effluent Treatment Plant to boost MSME investments and expand plastics consumption in the two States.
A major attraction at the expo is the Dedicated Recycling Pavilion, showcasing technologies that convert discarded plastics into value-added products such as roads, railway sleepers, furniture, construction materials and garments.
The exhibition also features live machinery demonstrations, technical conferences and business networking sessions, and will remain open till August 10.
