35 Olectra electric buses inaugurated in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Maharahstra), Nov 2 (TNT): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday inaugurated 35 air-conditioned electric buses manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech Limited, a subsidiary of the MEIL Group (Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited),  in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, marking a step towards strengthening sustainable urban public transport in the city.

The buses were inaugurated at a ceremony held at the Divisional Sports Complex on November 1, the company said in a release on Monday.

They have been introduced to modernise the city’s public transport network under the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation.

The buses will be operated by Evey Trans, with passenger services commencing from Monday on various routes across the city.

The newly introduced nine-metre electric buses are equipped with blade battery technology and feature monocoque construction, front and rear air suspension, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), regenerative braking and disc brakes.

The buses also have CCTV cameras, digital destination boards with passenger announcement systems, vehicle location tracking, USB charging ports and air curtains at passenger doors to enhance passenger safety and comfort.

With zero tailpipe emissions and quieter operations, the buses are expected to contribute to reducing urban air pollution and dependence on conventional fuels.

Olectra Greentech Managing Director Mahesh Babu said the introduction of the buses was another step towards making clean, reliable and efficient public transportation accessible to more people.

He said Olectra had deployed more than 4,500 electric buses across over 55 cities in the country, which had collectively covered more than 750 million green kilometres.

The company would continue to focus on innovation and reliable electric mobility solutions, he added.

The company has an order book of more than 7,950 vehicles.
