2,926 Candidates in Fray for West Bengal Assembly Polls

New Delhi, Apr 14 (TNT):  Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday said a total of 2,926 candidates are in the fray for the West Bengal Assembly (phase II) elections after the completion of the nomination process.

West Bengal will go to polls in two phases, with 1,478 candidates contesting from 152 constituencies in Phase-I and 1,448 candidates from 142 constituencies in Phase-II, the Commission said in a release here.

The last date of filing of nominations for the State of West Bengal (Phase-II), which goes to polls on April 29, 2026 was April 9, 2026, while the date of scrutiny of nominations for West Bengal (Phase-II), was April 10, 2026 and the last date of withdrawal of nominations was April 13, 2026 by 3:00 PM

The Commission said Returning Officers will publish the final list of contesting candidates in the Official Gazette as per the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961.

Voters can access details of candidates, including educational qualifications, criminal antecedents, and assets, through the “Know Your Candidate” feature on the ECINet App.

The ECI also said Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) ballot papers will carry coloured photographs of candidates along with their names and symbols to facilitate voter convenience.
