27,555 E-Buses Covered Under PM-eBus Sewa Payment Security Mechanism: Centre
New Delhi, Aug. 4 (TNT): A total of 27,555 electric buses have been brought under the PM-eBus Sewa – Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) Scheme against the target of 38,000 e-buses, Union Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
In a written reply, the Union Minister said that as of July 10, 2026, the scheme covers 10,000 e-buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), 14,000 e-buses under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and 3,555 e-buses under various State Government and State Transport Undertaking (STU) initiatives.
He said 523 e-buses have been deployed across the country under the PM-eBus Sewa–PSM Scheme. Of the buses sanctioned under the MoHUA component, 400 e-buses have been allocated to Odisha, though none had been deployed in the State as of August 3, 2026.
Kumaraswamy said the Government had approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the Automobile and Auto Component Industry on September 23, 2021, with a budgetary outlay of ₹25,938 crore to enhance domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technology products.
He informed the House that while the FAME India Phase-II Scheme concluded on March 31, 2024, the Government is currently implementing the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, notified on September 24, 2024, with a financial outlay of ₹10,900 crore to promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
The Union Minister also said the Ministry of Heavy Industries has established four Smart Advanced Manufacturing and Rapid Transformation Hub (SAMARTH) Centres under the Scheme for Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector to promote Industry 4.0 technologies.
The centres are located at the Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4) Lab, Pune; IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing, IIT Delhi; I-4.0 India at IISc, Bengaluru; and Smart Manufacturing Demo & Development Cell, CMTI, Bengaluru.
Since January 2023, the SAMARTH Centres have recorded 26,372 visitors, trained 33,751 persons, and conducted 332 training programmes, the Union Minister said.
He further informed the Rajya Sabha that there is no proposal at present to increase the number of Common Engineering Facility Centres under Phase II of the Scheme for Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector.
