Hyderabad, Feb 16 (TNT): ZF India Pvt. Ltd. on Monday announced the introduction of India’s first fully dressed low-floor electric axle for city buses ‘the AxTrax 2 LF’, marking a major milestone in the country’s zero-emission commercial vehicle segment.
The company has secured a landmark business nomination from a leading Indian commercial vehicle OEM for a multi-year supply program, with deliveries set to commence in 2026 for both domestic and export markets, the Germany based company said in a release here.
The nomination, secured in October 2025, covers several thousand units and will power 18-metre articulated buses and 11-metre city buses.
Advanced Integrated Design, The AxTrax 2 LF is a compact, lightweight, and fully integrated low-floor e-axle designed to replace conventional engine, transmission, and axle systems in city buses.
Featuring integrated braking and suspension systems within a space-efficient architecture, the system maximizes room for batteries and passengers while ensuring smooth and quiet operation.
Importantly, it uses similar installation space and identical mounting points as previous-generation and conventional low-floor axles, enabling simplified interchangeability and backward compatibility for OEMs.
Built on ZF’s modular eDrive platform, the AxTrax 2 LF combines: Dual permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) hairpin motors; Two independent 800V Silicon Carbide (SiC) inverters and A high-performance electronic control unit (ECU).
An advanced oil cooling system integrating an e-pump and heat exchanger optimizes efficiency, temperature management, and lubrication, supporting sustained durability and performance.
The higher-powered variant delivers: Up to 360 kW continuous power (260 kW variant also available); Peak torque of up to 36,800 Nm ; Over 25% climbing capability for 30-tonne articulated buses with a single driven axle and Lower energy consumption compared to previous-generation low-floor e-axles.
The system supports 6×2 and 6×4 configurations and is compatible with battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and trolley bus applications.
The AxTrax 2 LF meets advanced functional safety standards (ISO 26262) and regulatory cybersecurity requirements.
It integrates advanced software features including: Axle condition monitoring ; Hill hold and cruise control; Torque vectoring and creep function ; Regenerative braking ; Acceleration limit functions and Over-the-Air (OTA) update readiness.
ZF also offers harmonized air suspension and wheel-end solutions, simplifying integration and accelerating time-to-market for OEMs.
Akash Passey, President – ZF Region India, said the AxTrax 2 LF enables OEMs to design buses that maximize passenger and battery space while delivering superior efficiency and reliability.
He added that its compatibility with battery-electric, fuel cell, and trolley bus platforms reinforces India’s emerging role in next-generation commercial vehicle technology.
Paramjit Singh Chadha, Senior Vice President – CVS, ZF Group (Region India), stated that by combining propulsion, braking, suspension, comfort, safety, and intelligent electronics within a compact architecture, ZF is helping OEMs simplify vehicle development and accelerate deployment of zero-emission transportation solutions.
This milestone further strengthens ZF’s leadership in e-mobility and its commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable mobility solutions tailored to evolving market needs, he added.
