Hyderabad, Apr 9 (UNI): Telangana Jagruthi President and former BRS MP, K. Kavitha on Thursday termed the Women’s Reservation Bill a “post-dated cheque” and alleged that the Centre was delaying its implementation through a deceptive framework.
Addressing the media here, she said linking the Bill to the delimitation process had denied women the benefit of reservation in recent elections.
Kavitha claimed the momentum behind the Women’s Reservation Bill was the result of sustained efforts by Telangana Jagruthi and said the organisation’s protests, supported by 18 political parties, helped bring the issue to the national forefront.
She opposed the use of the ‘2011 Census of India’ as the basis for implementation and demanded that reservations be linked only to the ‘ 2027 Census’.
The BRS leader also sought inclusion of Backward Classes population data in the next Census to facilitate a sub-quota for BC women within the reservation framework.
She further demanded immediate circulation of the draft bill to all political parties and greater transparency in the legislative process.
Kavitha said the struggle for women’s representation would continue until the reservation framework ensures equitable and inclusive implementation.
