Weekend Drunk-Driving Drive: Cyberabad Traffic Police Nab 340 Offenders, Warn of Strict Action

Hyderabad, Feb 1 (TNT): Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 340 persons for drunk driving during a special weekend enforcement drive conducted across the Cyberabad limits.

Among those apprehended, 275 were riding two-wheelers, 14 three-wheelers, 48 four-wheelers, and 3 heavy vehicles, a police release said here on Sunday.

Police found dangerously high levels of intoxication among offenders during the drunk driving.

As per Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) readings, 273 persons recorded levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 46 between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 offenders had extreme levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.

All the accused will be produced before the local Court.

Police also said that during the last week from January 26 to January 31, 2026, courts disposed of 257 drunk-driving cases, in which five offenders were sentenced to fine and jail, 12 to fine and social service, and 240 were imposed fines.

Cyberabad Police warned that drunken driving will be treated as a serious criminal offence.

Any person driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal accident will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which attracts punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine
