UoH, ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition Forge Five-Year Academic and Research Partnership

Hyderabad, Jan 30 (TNT):The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) to strengthen collaboration in education, research and public health nutrition.

The five-year partnership aims to promote joint academic programmes, faculty exchange, collaborative research, joint PhD initiatives, and the organisation of national and international symposiums and conferences, the University said in a releas here on Friday.

The collaboration will also create opportunities for UoH students and research scholars to pursue internships and placements at ICMR-NIN.

ICMR-NIN, a premier public nutrition research institution under the Indian Council of Medical Research, has played a key role in shaping India’s nutrition policies and public health programmes over the past 100 years, contributing significantly to improving the health and well-being of the population.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar, University of Hyderabad, and Dr. Bharati Kulkarni, Director, ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, here on Thursday in the presence of Prof. B. J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad. Faculty members, deans and officials from both institutions were present on the occasion.

Lauding the partnership, Prof. B. J. Rao emphasised the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections between researchers of both institutions and expressed interest in exploring initiatives such as mobile food and nutrition testing laboratories to serve communities.

Dr. Bharati Kulkarni outlined the evolution and contributions of ICMR-NIN over the last century and expressed confidence that the collaboration would have a meaningful impact at the national, regional and global levels.

Prof. Ramesh K. Mishra, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, highlighted the potential for collaborative research on the role of nutrition in cognition and proposed co-hosting a symposium on the theme.
