Amaravati, Mar19 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday reviewed the crop damage caused by unseasonal rains and hailstorms in the state and directed officials to undertake a comprehensive assessment.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that crops in about 1,215 hectares have been damaged across 16 mandals in six districts, including Krishna, Nellore, Sri Sathya Sai, NTR, Anantapur and Parvathipuram Manyam.
According to preliminary estimates, paddy crops in 384 hectares, maize in 630 hectares and pulses in about 200 hectares were affected, impacting 2,043 farmers.
Horticulture crops spread over 267 hectares were also damaged in Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and NTR districts, affecting 307 farmers. Crops such as banana, papaya, mango and orange were among those impacted.
The Chief Minister directed officials to conduct a detailed and comprehensive assessment of crop losses and ensure timely dissemination of weather updates to farmers to minimise further damage.
He also asked officials to take necessary precautionary measures to protect crops from adverse weather conditions.
