Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Jan 30 (TNT): As the Union Budget 2026 approaches, Wadi Surgicals Private Limited, a leading Indian manufacturer of medical gloves, on Friday called for stronger regulatory safeguards and targeted fiscal support to accelerate domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
In a release, the company highlighted that the Indian nitrile gloves sector continues to face pressure from substandard imports that do not comply with quality standards, impacting the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers.
It urged the government to take swift action to protect compliant Indian producers and reinforce the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Mr. K. Anindith Reddy, Managing Director & Co-Founder, Wadi Surgicals Private Limited, said the government should impose anti-dumping duties on nitrile glove imports from Malaysia and Thailand and fast-track implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO) by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, making BIS certification mandatory.
He also sought concessional repo rates and an extension of loan moratoriums for companies that commenced operations during the Covid period under the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme, stating that such measures would enable capacity expansion and financial stability.
Additionally, the company recommended rationalisation of customs duties to correct inverted duty structures, capital subsidies for machinery upgrades, and R&D grants to support advanced manufacturing technologies and new product development.
According to Wadi Surgicals, these interventions would help strengthen India’s self-reliance in critical medical consumables, promote quality-driven manufacturing, and enhance the country’s global competitiveness in the healthcare sector.
