Kakinada, Feb 8 (TNT): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Sunday demanded a thorough investigation into the direct and indirect role of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board in the alleged laddu ghee adulteration issue.
Addressing the media, BJP District President B. Visweswerarao and senior leader Duvvuri Subrahmanyam said the relaxation of rules related to the ghee supply contract could not have been decided solely at the officials’ level and warranted scrutiny of the Trust Board’s decisions.
Welcoming the State government’s move to appoint a one-man commission, the BJP leaders expressed hope that it would conduct a comprehensive probe into the Trust Board’s role in the matter.
They pointed out that while there was unanimity between the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) on the issue of laddu ghee adulteration, differences existed regarding the alleged mixing of animal fat. In such circumstances, they said, it was essential to seek a third-party opinion.
The BJP leaders also criticised the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court, alleging that it ignored certain key aspects of the adulteration issue.
