Tirumala, Feb 25 (TNT) : The Srivari Dharma Ratham free bus services operated by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for the convenience of pilgrims in Tirumala have been receiving an overwhelming response following the installation of digital display boards at bus stops.
The digital boards provide real-time information on bus locations and arrival timings, significantly reducing waiting time and encouraging more pilgrims to use the free transport facility.
This initiative is considered a first-of-its-kind technological intervention among major spiritual destinations in the country.
At present, 12 modern electric buses are operating under the service, making around 300 trips daily, with each trip covering approximately 6.5 km.
On average, about 60,000 pilgrims are availing the free bus services every day, ensuring safe and hassle-free travel within Tirumala.
Earlier, due to the lack of information on bus arrival timings, many pilgrims depended on private taxis, often paying high fares.
To address this issue, TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary initiated the installation of digital display boards at 20 bus stops to provide real-time updates.
The digital boards were donated by Hyderabad-based B.S. Technotronics Private Limited, while Olectra Greentech Limited is providing technical support.
Pilgrims can now know the exact arrival time of buses, which is usually within 10 minutes, leading to increased usage of the free services.
The electric buses have also contributed to environmental protection by reducing fuel consumption and vehicular pollution, in line with TTD’s objective of promoting eco-friendly public transport and reducing congestion in Tirumala.
Currently, the buses operate 120 trips each between 0500 hrs and 1300 hrs and between 1300 hrs and 2100 hrs, and 60 trips between 2100 hrs and 0500 hrs.
TTD is planning to add 20 additional night trips and introduce more electric buses in the future, depending on pilgrim demand.
