TGHRC seeks DGP report on alleged police negligence in Advocate G. Swapna Kumari’s murder case

Hyderabad, Feb 16 (TNT): The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), headed by Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, has taken cognizance of a complaint  filed by 163 advocates alleging gross negligence by the police in connection with the brutal murder of advocate G. Swapna Kumari.

She was killed on Feb 4 at Chevella amid an ongoing land dispute.

According to the complaint, despite prior representations made by the deceased naming her brother as a suspect and expressing apprehension about threats to her life, the police of Moinabad allegedly failed to take timely preventive action.

The complainants contend that such inaction amounts to serious dereliction of duty and directly contributed to the tragic incident.

Taking the matter seriously, the Commission on Monday called for a detailed report from the state Director General of Police (DGP) and has listed the case for further consideration on March 6,2026.

The complainants have sought an independent inquiry, action against erring officials, protection for eyewitnesses, interim compensation to the victim’s mother, and expeditious filing of the charge sheet.
