TGCSB holds SHIELD conclave to focus in tackling cybercrime

Hyderabad, Feb 5 (TNT): The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) of the Telangana Police on Thursday inaugurated SHIELD 2026, the second edition of the State’s flagship cybersecurity conclave, reinforcing Telangana’s leadership in cybercrime prevention and digital public safety.

The conclave was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy, along with senior officials from Central and State governments, law enforcement agencies, industry leaders, academia, and cybersecurity experts from across the country.

Building on the success of its inaugural edition, SHIELD 2026 serves as a national collaboration platform bringing together government, police forces, industry, startups, academia, and the research ecosystem. The conclave focuses on emerging cyber threats, advanced investigation techniques, and victim support mechanisms, aligning technology, policy, and enforcement.

More than 20 states are represented at the event, with participation from national and international stakeholders.

The discussions are expected to strengthen inter-state coordination, promote public-private partnerships, and enhance India’s overall cyber resilience amid rising digital adoption and sophisticated cybercrime challenges.

A key outcome of SHIELD 2025 was the launch of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) by  Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Since its establishment, the CPU has delivered significant operational outcomes in combating online child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

While earlier approximately 50,400 tiplines resulted in 37 cases and 36 arrests, post-CPU formation, over 1,20,563 tiplines have been processed, leading to 866 cases registered and 421 arrests, reflecting a far more coordinated and technology-driven response.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramakrishna Rao,  underscored the importance of strong policy alignment, administrative readiness, and cross-departmental coordination to effectively address evolving cyber risks impacting governance, public services, and critical infrastructure.

He emphasized that cybersecurity must be embedded across all levels of administration to ensure effective and timely responses.

Shivadhar Reddy, highlighted the operational challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating cybercrime, including rapidly evolving threat vectors and increasing case volumes.

He emphasized the need for advanced investigative technologies, specialised training, and collaborative frameworks to strengthen cybercrime investigation, response, and enforcement capabilities across the State.

Welcoming the gathering, TGCSB Director Shikha Goel, outlined TGCSB’s vision of building a resilient and future-ready cybersecurity ecosystem through co-innovation with industry, academia, and research institutions.

She highlighted TGCSB’s focus on ployment-ready solutions, capacity building, and technology adoption aligned with real-world law enforcement needs.
