Hyderabad, Feb 17 (TNT): The Telangana government has set a target of attracting $25 billion in investments and generating five lakh jobs in the Life Sciences sector by 2030 as part of its plan to position Hyderabad as a global innovation hub, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the inauguration of BioAsia 2026 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Sridhar Babu outlined the State’s vision to transform Hyderabad into a “Laboratory of the Future.”
He announced the rollout of the Telangana Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy (2026–2030), aimed at positioning the State among the world’s top three Life Sciences clusters by the end of the decade.
The policy signals a strategic shift from traditional pharmaceutical manufacturing toward high-value innovation, advanced research, and next-generation drug discovery.
“India is no longer seen merely as a supply base for pharmaceuticals and vaccines, but increasingly as a source of advanced scientific solutions,” the Minister said, adding that Telangana is preparing for this transition by building an integrated innovation-led ecosystem.
Hyderabad is currently the only Indian city featured among the world’s leading Life Sciences ecosystems in the CBRE Global Life Sciences Atlas, alongside established hubs such as Boston, San Francisco, Beijing and Tokyo.
The State government plans to leverage this global recognition to attract multinational R&D investments, biotech start-ups, and leading pharmaceutical companies., the Minister said.
To support its expansion roadmap, Telangana is strengthening its research and workforce ecosystem through institutions such as: Telangana School of Life Sciences and Young India Skills University.
The State is also focusing on specialised training in emerging domains including mRNA technology, gene editing, AI-driven drug discovery, computational biology, and advanced biologics manufacturing, the Minister added.
With its $25 billion investment target and a clear innovation-driven strategy, Telangana is positioning Hyderabad as a next-generation global Life Sciences hub, shifting from volume-led pharmaceutical production to research-intensive, technology-enabled growth.
