Hyderabad, Feb 16 (TNT): State Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Monday chaired a meeting of the State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC) at the Secretariat, setting in motion comprehensive preparations for Census 2027 — the first fully digital Census to be conducted in the State.
Reviewing administrative, logistical and operational arrangements, the Chief Secretary emphasised that meticulous planning and seamless inter-departmental coordination would be critical to the success of what he described as a major national exercise.
He directed officials to prepare tentative estimates of manpower requirements and ensure timely decision-making across departments.
In a significant move to strengthen district-level readiness, the Government will soon convene a conference of District Collectors to sensitise them on timelines, responsibilities and operational strategies.
The focus, officials said, will be on structured planning and accountability at every level.
With the Census set to be conducted entirely in digital mode, the Chief Secretary instructed departments to guarantee complete field coverage, ensuring that no slum, habitation or remote settlement is left out.
He also underscored the need for qualitative training of enumerators and supervisors to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
Director of Census Bharati Holikeri informed the Committee that nearly 90,000 government employees preferably teachers and other staff are expected to be deployed during the first phase, highlighting the scale and importance of the exercise.
Senior officials, including Principal Secretaries and Secretaries from key departments such as Finance, Forest, PR&RD, Health, Revenue, GAD and MAUD, attended the meeting.
