Telangana Seeks Addl Commercial LPG Cylinders from Centre: Uttam

Hyderabad, Mar 14(TNT): Telangana Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday said the state government has written to the Centre seeking additional commercial LPG cylinders to address the severe shortage affecting hotels and other commercial establishments.

Reviewing the LPG supply situation with representatives of the Telangana LPG Distributors Association at the Secretariat here , Uttam  said commercial LPG supplies are currently meeting only about 20 per cent of the demand.

He said domestic LPG supplies remain near normal, with around 2.15 lakh cylinders delivered daily through about 8,010 distributors across the state. However, commercial LPG supplies have dropped to about 6,200 cylinders per day against a normal requirement of around 23,000 cylinders.

Uttam  said Telangana has about 1.3 crore domestic LPG consumers and an estimated 1.5–7.5 lakh commercial users, adding that oil marketing companies are prioritising domestic consumers and essential institutions such as hospitals, schools and welfare hostels.

He said the shortage was linked to global disruptions and geopolitical tensions in West Asia affecting supply routes.

The Minister said a command and control centre has been set up at Civil Supplies Bhavan with round-the-clock operations and a toll-free helpline (1800-428-00333 / 1967) to address complaints. He warned of strict action against black marketing and misuse of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes.

He appealed to the public not to panic-book domestic LPG refills and said around 1,740 KL of kerosene has been kept ready as a contingency measure.

A state-level committee under the Chief Secretary and district-level committees led by Collectors have also been constituted to monitor the situation daily, the Minister added.
