Telangana safest state for women, says CM ; launches ‘Stand With Her’ campaign

Hyderabad, Mar 7 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday said the state government is making strong efforts to make Telangana the safest state for women in the country, while promoting their protection and empowerment.

Launching the “Stand With Her” campaign, an initiative encouraging men to support and stand up for women, in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister called upon youth to act as brand ambassadors for women’s safety.

“Women should not confine themselves to the kitchen. The government wants women to excel in all fields. Society must develop the philosophy of supporting women against gender discrimination and protecting their rights,” he said.

Expressing concern over the rise in cybercrimes against women, Revanth Reddy said the growth of social media has also led to an increase in online crimes. He stressed that ensuring women’s safety cannot be achieved by laws and policing alone.

“Protection of women is possible only when society treats it as a social responsibility. Every woman should be respected like a member of our own family,” he added.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the contribution of the Indian National Congress in promoting women’s empowerment in politics, noting that women leaders have served as President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker and Chief Ministers in the country.

He said the state government has launched several initiatives aimed at strengthening women economically and socially.Ration cards and Indiramma housing are being issued in the names of women, while self-help groups have been provided loans and allotted shop complexes at Shilparamam.

Revanth Reddy said the government is also encouraging women to participate in solar power generation, enabling them to compete with major corporate groups like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani in the future.

He added that apart from free bus travel for women in RTC buses, the government is encouraging women’s groups to become owners of 1,000 RTC buses and has also allocated petrol pumps to women to strengthen their economic independence.

The Chief Minister noted that the state’s Women’s University has been named after Chakali Ilamma, honouring the revolutionary spirit and courage of women.
