
Hyderabad, Feb 18 (TNT): The fourth edition of the Telangana State Police Sports and Games Meet–2026 was inaugurated with ceremonial grandeur at the Cyberabad Police Parade Grounds here on wednesday,
Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy declared the meet open after receiving a guard of honour and lighting the sports torch.
The torch was presented by Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Dr. M. Ramesh.
The ceremony featured the rendition of the State song “Jaya Jayahe Telangana”, followed by ceremonial gun firing and release of balloons.
Addressing the gathering, the DGP stressed the importance of balancing professional responsibilities with physical fitness and mental resilience.
He said sports promote teamwork, leadership and discipline, and urged personnel to prioritise sports participation alongside duty.
He also called for increased participation of women personnel across disciplines.
According to the Commissioner of Police, 2,532 athletes from all 33 districts of Telangana, including 300 women personnel, are participating in the meet.
Competitions are being conducted across 31 disciplines, of which 14 are exclusively for women.
He further announced that Telangana will host the forthcoming All India Police Football Tournament next month.
Inspector General of Police (P&L, Sports & Welfare) Dr. Gajarao Bhupal highlighted the achievements of Telangana Police athletes at national and international levels.
He said the State Government provides cash incentives and service increments to medal winners at national competitions.
Personnel from 21 wings of the department, including all Zones, Commissionerates and specialised units such as TGSP, Greyhounds, OCTOPUS, Intelligence, CID, IT & Communications and Ministerial Staff, are participating in the meet.
Following the inaugural ceremony, the DGP witnessed a volleyball match and interacted with students of the Young India Police School.
A Police Welfare and Wellness Expo was also inaugurated on the occasion.
The expo features stalls on healthcare, nutrition, fitness equipment, organic products and policing technologies.
The exhibition will remain open to police families and visitors until Saturday.
Senior officials present included Soumya Mishra, Director General (Prisons & Correctional Services); Vikram Singh Mann, Director General (Fire Services); and other senior officers of the Telangana Police.
