Telangana Jagruthi Prez Kavitha slams Demolition of Houses in Khammam, Seeks Full Rehabilitation for Affected Families

Hyderabad, Mar 17 (TNT): Telangana Jagruthi President and former BRS MP, K.Kavitha , on Tuesday strongly criticised the demolition of houses belonging to poor families in Velugumatla in Khammam district, alleging that the government acted without prior notice and displaced hundreds of residents.

She claimed that around 750 families were affected by the demolitions and termed the action “cruel and unjust”. Kavitha said that following protests by Telangana Jagruthi and the Dharma Samaj Party, the government announced relief measures, including land allocation for 300 families and financial assistance for 110 others. However, she alleged that only about 410 families had received any support so far.

She also criticised the lack of transparency, stating that attempts to meet district officials, including the Collector, were unsuccessful.

She demanded that the government take full responsibility for rehabilitation, including housing, rent support, education for children, and other basic needs until permanent arrangements are made.

A fact-finding committee comprising retired judge Chandrakumar, retired Army Major Madan Kumar, academicians, lawyers, and social activists has been constituted to assess the situation on the ground.

The panel is expected to visit Khammam, interact with affected families and officials, and submit its report.

Dharma Samaj Party president Visharadhan Maharaj termed the relief measures inadequate and demanded that all affected families be provided proper housing based on the actual value of their demolished homes, along with interim assistance.

Members of the committee also expressed concern over the adequacy of compensation, with retired officials stressing the need for due process and fair rehabilitation.

They said arbitrary actions without proper procedures could undermine public trust.

The committee said it would conduct a detailed inquiry and submit recommendations to the government, calling for immediate steps to ensure justice and dignity for all affected families.
