Hyderabad, Feb 6 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday evening announced that the Congress government will introduce a law to curb hate speech in the upcoming Assembly session, framing the move as essential to protect communal harmony and counter divisive politics.
Addressing a programme organised by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind here, the Chief Minister took direct aim at the BJP leadership, daring Union Home Minister Amit Shah to come to power in Telangana.
Revanth Reddy alleged a “tacit understanding” between the BJP and BRS, claiming the BRS had helped the BJP increase its vote share in recent Lok Sabha elections.
Positioning Congress as the protector of minority rights, the CM said his government is ready to place Muslim population data before the Supreme Court in the pending case on four per cent reservation for Muslims.
He asserted that the data was already available from the caste census conducted last year and challenged the BJP to cancel the quota if it had the courage.
Revanth Reddy credited the Congress legacy for introducing and safeguarding minority reservations, recalling the initiative taken during the tenure of former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
He said the Congress would ensure strict implementation of the quota, which he noted had enabled many to secure employment.
Highlighting the party’s outreach to minorities, the Chief Minister said Congress has consistently given political opportunities to minority leaders at the national and state levels.
He also appealed to minorities to unite behind Muslim candidates in the upcoming municipal elections, arguing that peace, law and order and inclusive politics were crucial to attract investments and sustain development.
Stressing that “no individual can run the country alone,” Revanth Reddy said democracy thrives on collective effort and warned that politics driven by hate would ultimately fail, underscoring Congress’s bid to consolidate minority support ahead of key local body polls.
