Telangana Govt Seeks More IPS Officers from Centre

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Mar 4 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday evening urged the Centre to allocate additional Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to Telangana, citing growing administrative and security requirements.

During a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said the first cadre review after the formation of Telangana was conducted in 2016, while the next review due in 2021 was delayed and carried out only in 2025.

He pointed out that only seven additional IPS officers were sanctioned in the latest review and sought an increase in the sanctioned strength from the existing 83 to 105 officers.

He also requested that the third cadre review be conducted as scheduled in 2026.

Reddy highlighted emerging challenges such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, white-collar crimes and other modern security threats facing the state.

He also drew attention to rising administrative demands following the reorganisation of the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Police Commissionerates, the proposed Future City Commissionerate and the rapid population growth in Hyderabad.
