Hyderabad, Apr 2 (TNT): A delegation from the University of Florida met Telangana State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao here on Thursday and discussed collaboration in digital and sustainable agriculture.
The delegation was led by K. Ramesh Reddy, Director of the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE).
During the meeting, the university proposed a partnership with Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University (SKLTGHU) in research, education, and extension services.
Discussions were also held on establishing a Telangana Digital and Sustainable Agriculture Centre (TDSAC) through collaboration between the state government, SKLTGHU, and the University of Florida.
Officials said the partnership could facilitate the adoption of modern agricultural technologies such as precision farming, artificial intelligence-based systems, remote sensing, and drone applications in the state.
The delegation also highlighted the importance of climate-resilient crops, soil health management, and efficient water use.
Focus areas included the cultivation of high-value crops such as strawberries and blueberries, along with developing processing and value-added industries to enhance farmers’ incomes.
The Agriculture Minister said international collaborations would play a key role in modernising the sector and improving farmer incomes.
He directed officials to constitute a task force to oversee implementation of the proposed initiatives.
Former Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor S. Raghuvardhan Reddy and SKLTGHU Vice-Chancellor Rajireddy were also present.
