Hyderabad, Mar 24 (TNT: The Telangana Goshala Federation (TGF) on Wednesday urged the state government to take pre-emptive measures and ensure strict enforcement of animal preservation laws ahead of the Bakri-Id festival in May.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and senior officials, the Federation called for proactive steps to prevent illegal cattle transport and slaughter, citing provisions of the Telangana Cow Slaughter Prohibition and Animal Preservation Act, 1977.
Led by its Honorary President Mahesh Agarwal, the Federation stressed the need to balance communal harmony with adherence to legal and constitutional provisions, including Article 48.
Among its key demands, the Federation sought a 30-day vigilance period prior to the festival, with special enforcement teams to monitor illegal activities.
It also called for strict border checks with round-the-clock monitoring at transit points and directions to police officials for swift action against violators.
The memorandum proposed temporary suspension of cattle markets for 15 days ahead of the festival to curb illegal trade of prohibited animals.
Further, it urged the government to establish temporary shelters and provide veterinary care for rescued cattle.
The Federation also requested the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary to issue advisories to local bodies and gram panchayats to prevent violations at the grassroots level.
TGF said it is committed to working with the state government to ensure lawful and peaceful observance of the festival.
