Telangana CM orders Fast-Track Repairs of Kaleshwaram Barrages, Sets December Deadline

Hyderabad, Apr 10 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday night directed officials to expedite repair works of the three damaged barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and ensure their restoration at the earliest.

He asked officials to prepare a detailed work schedule for completion of the repair works by December and warned that delays in execution would not be tolerated.

Reviewing the status of the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages along with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy here Thursday night, Revanth  instructed the Irrigation Department to complete the repairs in accordance with the guidelines of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).

He directed the authorities to formulate a specific action plan and ensure continuous monitoring of the repair process. He also ordered the constitution of a dedicated team comprising officials from the Irrigation Department, Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), barrage construction agencies and design consultants.

The Chief Minister said members of the Central Water Commission (CWC) should be involved at every stage of the repair works.

Officials informed the meeting that a comprehensive study of the entire 1.6-km Medigadda barrage was required instead of limiting assessment only to the damaged piers.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare a special action plan for drilling 500 borewells near Medigadda and procure the required machinery.

He also directed that repair designs be finalised and a base camp be established at Medigadda for supervision of the works.

He further said that tests and sample collection being carried out under the supervision of CWPRS must be completed before the onset of the monsoon season.

Assuring full financial support for the repairs, Revanth Reddy said he would personally visit the site after commencement of the works.

Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Irrigation Secretary Sridhar, CM’s Secretary Manik Raj and senior Irrigation Department officials attended the review meeting.
