Telangana Budget ‘Numerical Gimmickry’, Failed and Misleading: BJP

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (TNT): Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Friday described the Congress government’s 2026–27 Budget as “numerical gimmickry” and a “failed, false and fancy budget”, alleging it lacks substantive outcomes in public welfare and development.

Addressing a press conference here, Rao criticised the budget presented by Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, calling it “extremely disappointing” and largely a repetition of the previous year’s proposals without significant new initiatives.

He said it was “unfortunate” that even after over two years in power, the government had “no visible results” to show in terms of development.

Raising concerns over the education sector, Rao said that despite a claimed increase of ₹1,000 crore, its share in the overall budget remains around 8 per cent, which he termed inadequate compared to other states.

On healthcare, he alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had failed to clear dues under the Aarogyasri scheme and cautioned against diverting funds from other welfare programmes.

Rao also questioned the government’s claims on development projects, stating that initiatives like aerospace growth were largely driven by Central schemes such as ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’ under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that key infrastructure projects like the Regional Ring Road were funded by the Centre.

Alleging neglect of farmers, he said dues under the Rythu Bharosa scheme remain unpaid and that promises such as unemployment allowance and financial assistance for women were not reflected in the budget. He termed the absence of allocations for the Congress party’s “Six Guarantees” as a “betrayal”.

The BJP leader also criticised the Musi River rejuvenation project, alleging cost escalation and raising concerns over demolition of houses in the name of development.

Accusing the government of “vote-bank politics”, Rao said allocations to certain sectors were prioritised over others and questioned the lack of focus on urban development, particularly in Hyderabad.

“This budget has dashed the hopes of the people. It is far removed from the needs of the poor,” he said, adding that the BJP strongly condemns the budget.
