Telangana aims to take affordable broadband to every village: CS

Hyderabad, Feb 10 (TNT): Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Tuesday said the state government is committed to ensuring affordable, reliable, and inclusive broadband connectivity, in line with the National Broadband Mission.

The objective, he said, is to connect even the last village and ensure digital access for all citizens.

Presiding over the 8th State Broadband Committee meeting held at the Secretariat and reviewed the progress of broadband and telecom infrastructure development across Telangana, Ramakrishna Rao emphasised that the state would effectively play its dual role as both regulator and facilitator to accelerate telecom and broadband expansion.

He directed District Collectors to convene District Level Telecom Committee (DLTC) meetings within the next fortnight to strengthen coordination and resolve field-level issues.

Highlighting infrastructure safety, the Chief Secretary stressed the need for greater awareness among field officials on the use of the “Call Before U Dig (CBuD)” application to prevent damage to underground telecom networks during excavation works.

He noted that Telangana’s T-Fiber Pilot Villages initiative has received wide appreciation as an innovative model for improving rural broadband connectivity and observed that the state is performing above the national average on several key telecom infrastructure indicators.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Central Right of Way (RoW) Rules, with a focus on streamlining permissions for laying telecom infrastructure while ensuring minimal disruption to public services.

The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal, Special Chief Secretary (MAUD) Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary (Industries) Sanjay Kumar, senior officials from concerned departments, and representatives of telecom service providers.
