Addanki (Andhra Pradesh), Mar 29 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Sunday said the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has emerged stronger after facing multiple challenges over its 44-year journey, crediting the dedication of party cadre for its resurgence.
Addressing foundation day celebrations at Kamepalli village in Addanki constituency, the Minister paid tributes to party founder N. T. Rama Rao and hoisted the party flag.
He said the arrest of party national president N. Chandrababu Naidu during the previous YSR Congress Party regime failed to demoralise workers, who instead rallied and brought the party back to power.
Highlighting the party’s legacy, Ravi Kumar said TDP had introduced several welfare measures, including housing for the poor, equal property rights for women, Gurukul schools for weaker sections, and political representation for BC, SC and ST communities.
He said the present coalition government was implementing all election promises, including “Super Six” schemes, and accused former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of spreading misinformation over credit for welfare initiatives.
The Minister said social pensions were increased by ₹1,000 after the new government assumed office, while schemes such as “Talliki Vandanam”, free gas cylinders for women and free bus travel were being implemented.
On the energy front, he said the PM Surya Ghar scheme was being promoted to reduce electricity costs, with plans to provide at least 2,000 solar connections each to SC and ST beneficiaries in every constituency.
He also said efforts were underway to reduce power purchase costs and stabilise the financial position of utilities, adding that no hike in electricity tariffs had been imposed by the current government.
During the visit, the Minister distributed bicycles to students and announced infrastructure improvements, including a water plant for a local school. He said education and welfare remained key priorities of the government.
