Take up purification of Godavari : BJP leader

Kakinada, Mar 3 (TNT) :  In view of the impending Godavari Pushkarams next year, there was every need of purification of Godavari river which is getting polluted with all sorts of industrial wastes getting released in to the river, said BJP former district president and Mint former Director Chilukuri Ramkumar.

He told media persons  on Tuesday that  the longest river next to Ganga is Godavari and it was most unfortunate that the river was getting highly polluted due to gross negligence of the authorities.

For country’s stabilized development  pollution free live rivers was essential and everyone should strive for making the Godavari river free from pollution and contamination.’ he added.

Pointing out that the BJP after coming to power at the Center several steps were taken to purify the Ganga river and in a similar fashion  Godavari river purification also should be taken up which is the need of the hour’ he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi representing Varanasi constituency and BJP in power in Utter Pradesh provided  golden opportunity for purification of the Ganga river, he added.

BJP Anaparti MLA Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy also spoke in the Assembly on the increasing menace of pollution of Godavari waters.

The industrial wastes from the industrial units surrounding Rajahmundry city being released into Godavari river was one of the main reason for the increased pollution of Godavari waters.

In this back drop ,the authorities should bestow their attention on those industrial units and levy heavy penalties on them’ he asked the Pollution control board authorities .

Since the  central government has announced steps for Buckingham canal revival in the name of Kakinada – Chennai and  Pondicherry national water ways, Ramkumar felt that National waterways revival should be expedited.

If necessary, he would like to write a letter on behalf of the party to the Union Ministry of irrigation in this direction .

Recalling the people that the central government has allocated funds for water ways development, Ramkumar felt if the Buckingham canal is revived it would serve the two fold purpose of of tourism development and also waterways transport and government would secure additional revenue, he added.
