New Delhi, Mar 2 (TNT): The GSMA has conferred its Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, in recognition of his contribution to the global telecommunications industry.
The award was presented at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in the presence of Felipe VI, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Catalonia President Salvador Illa, a release said here on Monday.
The GSMA said the award, bestowed on a select few industry leaders, recognises individuals whose leadership and innovation have left a lasting impact on the global communications ecosystem.
Mittal built Bharti Airtel into one of the world’s leading telecom operators, serving over 600 million customers across India and Africa. He also served as GSMA Chairman from 2017 to 2018 and had earlier received the GSMA Chairman’s Award in 2008 and 2016.
Accepting the honour, Mittal said the recognition reflected India’s telecom journey and the industry’s role in expanding connectivity and digital inclusion worldwide.
