Khammam, Apr 9 (TNT): A special school for visually impaired students has been established in Khammam district with modern facilities under the Telangana Government’s Praja Palana programme.

The school has been developed at the Government Primary School in Nizampet following public requests and representations received through Prajavani, officials said on Thursday.

District Collector Anudeep Durishetty took the initiative in coordination with AC (LB) Dr P Srija and ZP CEO Diksha Raina, to convert the school into a dedicated institution for children with visual impairment.

Developed at a cost of Rs 18.50 lakh, the school has been equipped with Braille books, Braille literacy devices, smart technology labs, sensory room, sensory garden, music room, skill development centre and barrier-free infrastructure.

Special teaching-learning materials including Braille slates, abacus, geometry kits and tactile learning devices have also been provided to enhance the learning experience.

Officials said mobility tools such as long canes and folding canes have been arranged to help students move independently and safely.

The district administration said the initiative aims to ensure that visual impairment does not become a barrier to education and to provide equal learning opportunities to all students.

Collector Anudeep Durishetty said the school would serve as a platform for visually impaired students to realise their full potential and secure equal opportunities in society.
