Singareni may bid for CBM blocks with 19 Bn Cubic Metres Potential in Telangana

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (TNT): The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) may participate in the upcoming auction for Coal Bed Methane (CBM) exploration blocks in the Singareni region, following consultations with officials of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Senior ministry officials, who met SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti at Singareni Bhavan here on Friday evening, advised the company to take part in the auction of three major CBM blocks identified in the region.

Officials said the Ministry will shortly conduct auctions for CBM exploration across several states, including blocks located in the Pranahita–Godavari Valley region.

In the Singareni region, three blocks spanning six districts have been identified. These include a block covering Mancherial, Peddapalli and Komaram Bheem districts with an estimated 5 Billion Cubic Metres (BCM) of methane resources; a block in Bhadradri Kothagudem district with around 2 BCM; and a combined block covering Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts with approximately 12 BCM.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the total methane potential in these three blocks is about 19 BCM.

The initiative is part of efforts to enhance domestic energy production in line with the Centre’s “Viksit Bharat – 2047” vision aimed at strengthening self-reliance in the energy sector.

Dr Jyoti told the visiting delegation that the proposal would be examined and a decision taken in due course. Additional Director General in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Sachiv Kumar and other officials were present at the meeting.
